Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell was under treatment after slipping

March 10, 2023: On Wednesday, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., was hospitalized after struggling at a hotel, a spokesperson said.

“Leader McConnell tripped at a local hotel in a private dinner this evening. He has been admitted to the hospital where he is getting treatment,” David Popp, his spokesman, stated.

McConnell, aged 81, slipped at the Waldorf Astoria hotel in Washington, D.C., a person for the senator confirmed to NBC News.

Vito Maggiolo, a District of Columbia Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department spokesman, said a “male” was transported from the Waldorf Astoria on Wednesday night. The person was transferred to a local hospital, and “notes did not show patient condition,” he said. The call was started pursuing a report of a drop at the hotel.

He stated that he could not point out whether the person who had fallen was McConnell or which hospital he was taken to, which cited privacy issues under a federal law restricting the release of medical information.

In 2019, McConnell suffered a shoulder fracture after tripping and slipping at his Kentucky home. The GOP leader underwent an operation for the fracture.

No other information was given about his condition on Wednesday.

The incident was first stated by Punchbowl News, a politics news website.

McConnell was first chosen to the Senate in 1984 and, in 2020, was re-elected, serving a seventh term.

He was the Senate majority leader from 2015 until 2021 when Democrats became the majority after the 2020 elections.
