Why Skills-First Leadership Is Replacing the Ivy League Playbook in the C-Suite
The old prestige pyramid—where Ivy League degrees and blue-chip consulting backgrounds paved the way to the CEO seat—is cracking.

January 14, 2025: The European Union’s Digital Services Act (DSA) reshapes how B2B platforms operate across Europe. Aimed at creating a safer and more transparent digital space, the legislation enforces stricter accountability, data handling, and content moderation rules. This directly impacts significant online marketplaces, cloud service providers, and digital advertising platforms serving B2B clients.
Under the DSA, B2B platforms must implement more robust mechanisms to combat illegal content and ensure transparency in algorithmic decision-making. Companies like Amazon Business, Alibaba, and LinkedIn must disclose how their recommendation algorithms function and how user data influences product visibility. This could impact how B2B sellers and service providers engage with customers on these platforms.
Cloud service providers such as Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud must comply with stricter data governance rules. They must provide transparent data storage practices and ensure better protection against cybersecurity risks. This affects B2B clients relying on cloud infrastructure for secure data handling and operational continuity.
The DSA mandates transparent advertising models for digital advertisers. Platforms like Meta for Business and Google Ads must now clearly identify paid promotions and explain how user data is used to target business clients. B2B marketers may need to adjust their strategies to comply with new transparency standards.
Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) using these platforms face operational challenges. Compliance with new rules may require adjustments to content moderation policies, customer data management, and marketing practices. However, the DSA aims to create a fairer online market, potentially leveling the playing field for smaller businesses.
Non-compliance carries significant risks. Companies that fail to meet DSA standards face penalties of up to 6% of their global annual turnover. This pushes B2B platforms to prioritize compliance and reassess risk management strategies.
The DSA drives a shift toward greater accountability and trust in digital business environments. While compliance introduces operational complexities, it also encourages innovation in transparent digital practices, which could strengthen long-term relationships between B2B platforms and their clients.
