Brian J. Mead, CEO & President of Capitol Bearing & Hydraulics, has been hailed as a great negotiator with vendors and customers. This inspiration comes from his willingness to make changes to how the company does business and how to offer customers the best services available. Being a changemaker, Brian has transformed the company by making noticeable changes on the company’s website by incorporating a B2B cart for the customers to do business online and ensuring Capitol Bearing & Hydraulics has a tremendous social media presence. He has spearheaded revolutionizing procedures and processes that must enhance the team’s creativity and consistency to deliver the best products.
The steadfast leader has been a support system to the budding entrepreneurs trying hard to establish themselves. Single-handedly he gives them advice and talks about the ups and downs of Industrial Distribution, sharing his personal experiences and how he culminated into one of the most prominent leaders.
Brian’s father, Glen Mead, introduced him to industrial distribution in 1983. He starting as inside sales for Capitol Bearing & Hydraulic in 1987. Worked to account manager, branch manager, sales manager, vice president, and 2008 became the CEO/President. “I advise all the young entrepreneurs to find something you love to do and you want to dedicate your life to, focus on being the best at what you do, never lose sight on the people that stand beside you every day in the trenches to make the company successful and make sure you donate to your charities, and help others that are less fortunate than you. Always praise “THE GOOD LORD!” for your life, family, and your health!”
For Brian, success is a lifetime journey that never ends until one’s time is up. “I started working at 12 years old buffing floors and cleaning doctors’ offices, butchering fish, and cooking at Terry’s Seafood while I was in high school. I always tell everyone to set goals and a little progress everyday leads to Big Results! I had a great teacher on how a business should be run in JW Latham, he taught how to run a business the right way, be tough but fair with your vendors, fight every day to keep good margins on your products, have a good CPA and Lawyer, take care of your employees! My thoughts to being successful are, success is not final; failure is not fatal: It is the courage to continue that counts! When life knocks you to your knees. Get up…. Look up…Never, Never Give Up!” Brian incorporates a similar strategy to lead his company. “Running a business is like a big chess game. It’s my job to be the Leader and to place the Pawns, Rooks, and Knights in the places where they belong to win the business and where they are comfortable to grow with the company,” says Brian. “I have implemented bonuses based on quarterly bogies we set for the company and all branches. When they hit them as a team, and they make more money. Alongside, we have a family culture, and we all feel like a family, workplace must have fun while you get the job done!”
With such a brilliant attitude, Brian has been taking the company to new heights with record sales for the several years. Capitol Bearing & Hydraulics is an industrial distribution company that works with the construction, oil, and energy industries. The company is full-service power transmission, hydraulic, and industrial parts distributor with eight locations throughout Central Texas. Based in Round Rock, TX, they provide services for industrial distribution from Corpus to Fort Worth, TX, and the United States.
Capitol Bearing & Hydraulics has been incorporating the latest technologies to enhance themselves, starting with migrating to a cloud-based mainframe to ensure branches function and run in any emergency. “We took all phones out of offices and incorporated RingCentral so all calls can be answered anywhere any time with cell phones and computers which has proved to be a big money saver! For us, technology is an aide who helps us give the best to the customers,” adds Brian.
Capitol Bearing & Hydraulics helps customers by saving down time by showing them new products they have not seen and can save their company in maintenance downtime. They help design complete hydraulics and power transmission systems, assist in finding the hard-to-find resolution and products to meet the customer’s deadline, and make custom hose assembles in minutes with their Eaton/Danfoss products. “We tell our customers about our TEAM UP programs to drive their costs down yearly. This has been a game changer for everyone,” elucidates Brian.
The company’s most significant achievements can be summarized by taking all blinders off and thinking outside of the box to make the company change with the times and buying trends. They ensure to see the problems with the supply chain before it happens and make large stock orders on their top 10 vendors to ensure that the customers have their products to keep their operations up and running 24-7. Capitol Bearing & Hydraulics has also built a call center to answer calls for all branches and keep their phone agents on the cutting-edge technologies. “We are always asking our customers on products they would like to see us stock, making our B2B website better with more products, we also acquired a company, Precision Pak that make custom Hydraulic Power units to help us enhance products lines,” explains Brian on what the company is doing to develop in the near future. “It is important to mention that we are building a new location in Austin, Texas 21K square feet and added nut and bolt to our company and a Batteries Plush franchise. We pride ourselves on offering our customers quality products, competitive prices, and exceptional service. When you need an application for a custom hydraulic or adapter in Texas and beyond, can take care of you. Capitol Bearing & Hydraulics is known for being one of the most trusted industrial and hydraulic supply houses in Central Texas for over 74 years and, “DRIVING VALUE TO OUR CUSTOMERS!”
